About Me

My photo

Armchair theorist, poet, and occasional IT manager, Sascha B. is equipped with a Master's Degree in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Texas, and is not afraid to use it. His work has been published by the University Press of America, Edwin Mellen Press, University of Texas Press, and a variety of small journals nationwide. He is also the proprietor and baker for 3141 Pie, of which you should eat many.

The Deal

I stopped blogging in 2013, when life overtook me. My father became ill and died shortly thereafter, and my mother was left with increasing dementia. I became the primary caregiver, and now orchestrate my mother's care and our family estate.

Now, I am coming up for air again.

Looking for the next book to read. All suggestions welcome.

My reading list is over here.

Friday, November 27, 2015

It's the day after Thanksgiving, 2015. It rained through the early morning here in Laguna Beach, a cold drenching rain that cleared the air and gave a little bit of drought relief to the land. Now with the sun peering out through the chill, I plan for the day: breakfast with my mother, then a run to burn off a small fraction of the meal from last night, then if it is warm enough, take mom out for a ride in the Morgan. Try to engage her a little. Try not to succumb to sorrow or anxiety.

I have not written here in many months; but I think I will begin again. Not for you to read --- though you are welcome to it, if you have an interest, and lord knows I won't stop you -- but for my own sake, to have a place to put some thoughts that isn't buried in my own brain. A place to vent a little. Perhaps to let ideas flourish rather than die in the vine, suffocated by worry and the clouded fumes that percolate in my mind without an avenue for release. We'll see.

But now -- a cup of coffee. And start the day.
