About Me

My photo

Armchair theorist, poet, and occasional IT manager, Sascha B. is equipped with a Master's Degree in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Texas, and is not afraid to use it. His work has been published by the University Press of America, Edwin Mellen Press, University of Texas Press, and a variety of small journals nationwide. He is also the proprietor and baker for 3141 Pie, of which you should eat many.

The Deal

I stopped blogging in 2013, when life overtook me. My father became ill and died shortly thereafter, and my mother was left with increasing dementia. I became the primary caregiver, and now orchestrate my mother's care and our family estate.

Now, I am coming up for air again.

Looking for the next book to read. All suggestions welcome.

My reading list is over here.

Nate Makes A Funny

With this post, I think all confusion should be cleared up regarding health care options.

Nate Silver, you funny man, you.

But I had no idea about the bangers and mash "ice cream" cone...Scary.

Niall Ferguson Jumps The Shark

Ah, Niall, we hardly knew ya.

In comparing President Obama to the cartoon character Felix the Cat (both "black, and very, very lucky"), the economic historian and outspoken neocon Ferguson let loose a firestorm of bloggerative bloviation and backlash, which he then unfortunately, felt obligated to respond to.

For a guy who knows the nature of false equivalencies, this sort of idiocy is surprising---even for one who has a remarkable neocon blind spot.

Late Breaking News From The Obvious Dept.

the headline that I imagine none of us really need to qualify as "news":
Study: 40 percent of Twitter is "pointless babble"
Sheesh. Like we needed a study to figger that out.
