About Me

My photo

Armchair theorist, poet, and occasional IT manager, Sascha B. is equipped with a Master's Degree in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Texas, and is not afraid to use it. His work has been published by the University Press of America, Edwin Mellen Press, University of Texas Press, and a variety of small journals nationwide. He is also the proprietor and baker for 3141 Pie, of which you should eat many.

The Deal

I stopped blogging in 2013, when life overtook me. My father became ill and died shortly thereafter, and my mother was left with increasing dementia. I became the primary caregiver, and now orchestrate my mother's care and our family estate.

Now, I am coming up for air again.

Looking for the next book to read. All suggestions welcome.

My reading list is over here.

No Post Today

Having too much pain to really think straight.

I'll try for something this evening.

Crock of the Day

Mr. Stumpf of Wells Fargo says the bank made $72 billion of new loans in the fourth quarter. “We do business and lend money the old fashion way — responsibly and prudently,” he says. “We are Americans first and bankers second.”
I wonder what other timeless gems we are going to hear in the hearings with the House Finance Committee today. So far, I suspect that one takes the cake.

Then again, he is Wells Fargo, after all.

Kindergarten Democracy

It's the place where in an election, everyone wins!
AP JERUSALEM – Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and hard-line rival Benjamin Netanyahu both claimed victory in Israel's parliamentary election Tuesday.

Personal Note

The pain is very bad today. It seems to be getting worse, rather than better, I'm afraid.
